About Us

Welcome to PANCH SUTRA FOUNDATION

Panch Sutra Foundation is a non-profit, community-based organization dedicated to building a sustainable, equitable, and climate-resilient future for rural and mining-affected regions of Jharkhand, India. Founded under Section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013, the foundation is rooted in the belief that true development must be inclusive, locally driven, and environmentally conscious.

With a strong commitment to social, economic, and environmental justice, Panch Sutra Foundation works at the intersection of grassroots empowerment, sustainable agriculture, education, and climate action. Our name, meaning “Five Principles,” reflects our integrated focus on five key pillars of development:

  1. Education & Skill Development

  2. Livelihood Generation & Economic Empowerment

  3. Climate Change & Environmental Protection

  4. Women & Child Development

  5. Community Leadership & Policy Advocacy

Our Purpose

Our core purpose is to uplift marginalized communities, especially those affected by industrial mining activities, through a model of sustainable development that preserves natural resources while promoting self-reliance, dignity, and opportunity. We aim to equip individuals with the tools, knowledge, and skills needed to shape their own futures — while ensuring that environmental conservation remains central to every step.

What We Do

We run a wide range of community-based programs that include:

  • Digital literacy and skill development for rural youth to improve employability.

  • Support to women-led Self-Help Groups (SHGs) for income generation through organic products such as Mahua-based jam, pickle, oil, and herbal tonics.

  • Environmental campaigns such as Damodar Bachao Abhiyan for river and water resource protection.

  • Climate dialogues and education at the panchayat level through platforms like the COP Conference of Panchayats.

  • Girls’ education and health initiatives, including sports, menstrual hygiene awareness, and child nutrition programs.

  • Training and policy advocacy for a Just Transition — helping communities shift from coal-based economies to sustainable green livelihoods.

Our Vision

“To build a sustainable and climate-resilient Jharkhand, ensuring social, economic, and environmental justice.”

Our Mission

  • Empower communities through inclusive education, skills, and livelihood opportunities.

  • Conserve natural ecosystems while promoting climate-smart agriculture and organic farming.

  • Enable women, youth, and children to lead healthier, more empowered lives.

  • Foster grassroots leadership and amplify local voices in regional and national policy spaces.

Our Approach

At Panch Sutra Foundation, we believe that change is most effective when it comes from within the community. We work closely with village-level institutions, local leaders, and government bodies to ensure participation, ownership, and sustainability in every project. Our team blends traditional knowledge with modern innovation to address complex challenges such as climate change, unemployment, and gender inequality.

We also partner with CSR organizations, civil society networks, and environmental coalitions like Saarthi – Jharkhand Just Transition Network, ensuring that the voices of rural and tribal communities are represented in decision-making platforms at every level.

Panch Sutra Foundation is more than an organization — it’s a movement for inclusive, sustainable, and grassroots-led development. Whether you’re a donor, volunteer, policymaker, or partner, we invite you to join us in building a future where communities thrive in harmony with nature.
